Chef Matt Murphy has left the Ritz-Carlton New Orleans hotel, where he was executive chef, and M Bistro, the restaurant the hotel opened and named in his honor last year.
Russell Miller, general manager of the Ritz-Carlton, confirmed that Murphy is “no longer affiliated” with the hotel.
“Our restaurant will continue as M Bistro, but it won’t be M Bistro by Matt Murphy,” Miller says.
Miller wouldn’t elaborate on the reasons for the chef’s departure and Murphy couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
Meanwhile, M Bistro’s executive sous chef, Chad Gray, is now listed on OpenTable as the restaurant’s executive chef.
Murphy, a native of Dublin, had been with the Ritz-Carlton New Orleans since 2002. As executive chef he was responsible for the luxury hotel’s overall culinary operations.
Murphy made headlines in 2009 after a seemingly minor injury led to a rare and extremely serious blood infection and brought him to death’s door. The local culinary community rallied to his aid and after making a dramatic recovery the chef cut the ribbon on M Bistro in January 2010.
M Bistro continues to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.
