Plan B to reopen at The A.R.K.

Following talks with Mayor Mitch Landrieu's cultural pointman Scott Hutcheson, the New Orleans Community Bike Project (Plan B) received its temporary occupational license and will be back in the A.R.K. at 511 Marigny St. The bike workshop will host an open house from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.

Hasbin Willy's, a recycled arts community workspace, also will reopen Saturday, at 2 p.m. There will be new volunteer orientation (and general housecleaning) from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday (April 6).

The tenants at 511 Marigny St. (including Plan B, Hasbin Willy's and the Iron Rail Book Collective) faced a byzantine permit process following the New Orleans Police Department's 5th District's closure of the building March 9.

"We do this because we care about it and believe in it," Plan B director Victor Pizarro told Gambit. "Who we service is a cross-spread demographic of New Orleans. It's not just white punk traveling kids. That's a broad spectrum — black people, white people, elderly, young. It's all over the place."

Plan B also received support from District C councilmember Kristin Gisleson Palmer. "We're trying to get clarity for them," she told Gambit last month. "I just want to help them as much as I can and get them up and running because they really do provide a valuable service to the community."
