How to follow the Kid Rock cruise from your computer

If you're reading this, you're probably in a cube at work or slumped on the couch in your gym shorts ... and not on Kid Rock's Chillin' the Most Cruise, which departed New Orleans yesterday for Cozumel bearing not only Mr. Rock but 2,700 of his most devoted fans — and good buddy Carlos Mencia.

Though I cannot be sure, I would wager this merry crew will be singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long. Fortunately, we have a way to find out, as the Detroit Free Press has seen fit to send its pop music critic Brian McCollum and photographer Romain Blanquart to document the proceedings at sea. (We attempted to force Gambit music writer Noah Bonaparte Pais to do the same, but he whined and then locked himself inside the storage room at the AllWays Lounge.)*

Blanquart has a photo gallery going, and McCollum's first dispatch is here:

For this heavy-drinking, heavy-smoking crowd, it's an itinerary that includes all-hours bars, pole-dancing classes and performances by 16 acts, including Rev. Run, Gretchen Wilson and two up-close-and-personal concerts by Rock himself. ...

"The party will be everywhere," Rock boasted to the Free Press on Thursday afternoon, an hour after he and his entourage had boarded the ship to a throng of cheering fans queued up to join him. "Everywhere you go on this boat, you'll be walking into it."

Here's a snippet of last year's voyage at sea so you can see what you're missing. Fortunately, those who missed the Chillin' the Most Cruise can still see Kid Rock when he plays the final day of this year's New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, though the only pole-dancing will likely be hippies around the flagpole.

* We're totally sending Lauren LaBorde next year.
