All the national morning shows (as well as Jimmy Kimmel and Jay Leno) seem to stage free concerts on location when it gets warm outside. So — given our musical heritage — why not a local New Orleans station?

Our friends at the WWL Eyewitness Morning News* are launching a new Friday concert series to be broadcast live from Tipitina's French Quarter (233 N. Peters St.) on Friday mornings starting April 29:

We’ve assembled an all-star band for that first concert - Jeremy Davenport on trumpet; music legends George Porter and Walter “Wolfman” Washington on guitar; John “Papa” Gros on keyboard; “Big Sam” Williams of “Big Sam’s Funky Nation” on trombone; and Fred LeBlanc of “Cowboy Mouth” fame on drums.

Doors open at 7 a.m. and the show goes live on the air at 8 a.m. Parking is available for a fee at the lots across the street from the club.

The show goes on every Friday through May 20. Tickets are free, but you have to file your request here (16 and older only).

* (Disclosure: arts writer Noah Bonaparte Pais and special sections editor Missy Wilkinson are regular contributors to the Morning News.)
