All it took was one ESPN reporter to send out a tweet and for Deadspin.com to follow that up with a picture of Chris Paul in a Yankee cap, sitting in between members of Lebron James' marketing group.
Knicks and Heat fans are probably salivating right now, even though it's a pretty weak argument to hinge any hopes on for several reasons. HOOP Magazine pointed out the first (thought the Deadspin story doesn't reflect this) which is that Paul signed with James' LRMR Group last year. The ESPN reporter replied saying "I guess I knew that", which we guess justifies reporting misleading information.
It's important to always remember that Chris Paul is one of the most well-liked players in the league and that his friendship with LeBron has been well documented. That Paul's spending his free time in South Beach and then decided to watch one of his best friends in a playoff games, with people who are hired to market him, is pretty innocuous.
You'd also be pretty short-sided and/or stupid to take Chris Paul's headwear as an indication of where he wants to play because, as James showed us not so long ago, just because you wear a Yankee hat it doesn't mean you'll end up playing in New York. There's also the simple fact that, since Monty Williams and Dell Demps have arrived, Paul has seemingly bought into what his coach and GM are selling and may not want to leave after all (heck, even the New York Post seems to acknowledge this).
Of course, simple logic and reason doesn't come into play when you're talking NBA free agency. And I guess you could say that any rumors about Paul leaving New Orleans never actually went away, they were just overshadowed by the NBA season and playoffs.
But now that CP3 and the Hornets aren't playing? Well expect to see a lot of nonsense like this on the regular until he A) signs a new contract with the Hornets or B) doesn't.
Hornets fans must be thrilled.
