Chef Matt Murphy opened his new restaurant The Irish House
(1432 St. Charles Ave., 595-6755) Monday. It's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and has a small bar menu. The menu highlights Irish pub fare and there's plenty of hearty dishes like bangers and mash, as well as local seafood and Creole touches. The space has undergone a makeover since its former existence as a bright and sunny upscale cantina run by chef Guillermo Peters. The dining room is framed by dark wood and a couple too many Guinness signs, but is open, casual and inviting. The upstairs is not open yet.
Murphy previously worked at the Ritz-Carlton, which had named the restaurant M Bistro for him.
