New Orleans named America's #2 most kinky city

Another day, another list: Alternet has concocted a list titled "10 Kinkiest Cities in America," and "N'awlins, aka the Big Easy" (eyeroll) is #2. Why?

N’awlins, aka the Big Easy, has long had a reputation for debauchery. Of course, Mardi Gras, the infamous pre-Lent bacchanalian carnival has something to do with that, but New Orleans’ dirty dealings far exceed the typical Girls Gone Wild fare. Over an extended Labor Day weekend (starting the Wednesday prior), New Orleans hosts Southern Decadence, colloquially known as Gay Mardi Gras, but open to all orientations. This festival draws crowds upward of 300,000 from all over the U.S., with non-stop parties, “Big Dick” contests, and, well, sausage fests of the non-andouille variety. The South will rise again, indeed.

OK, I don't doubt New Orleans is one of America's kinkiest towns, but: Mardi Gras? Southern Decadence? Two festivals featuring a bunch of out-of-town people flashing their naughty bits at each other? Did this writer ever get off Bourbon Street?

Besides our annual swingers' convention, we're also a town with famous brothels old and new. We have this place and this place and this place and this place, which was so special our city's former technology chief dropped tens of thousands of dollars there. We have this events company. We even have a place for couples to get to know each other better right across the street from Zephyr Field, so you can indulge in both of America's favorite pastimes one after the other.

We also have beaucoup stories about politicians — including this one, involving a rising GOP star, his gorgeous wife who starred on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and their bitter divorce ... in part, she claims, because he made her go to this place.

So ... we may be kinky (and proud of it). But Mardi Gras doesn't have anything to do with it. But what do you expect from a list where the only kinkier city is a place called Roselawn, Indiana, which seems to qualify for the title because it has a nudist colony? Because we've got one of those, too.
