On Thursday, neighbors, community leaders and an impressive number of celebrities gathered to celebrate the opening of the long-awaited Ellis Marsalis Center for Music, a centerpiece of the Musicians' Village Habitat for Humanity neighborhood at Barholomew and Galvez, as well as the dedication of the new Musicians' Village Park. In attendance were Harry Connick, Jr. and Branford Marsalis, the public faces of Musicians' Village; Ellis Marsalis, of course; Ann Marie Wilkins, Connick-Marsalis manager and a driving force behind the project; Mayor Mitch Landrieu; Gov. Bobby Jindal; and Jim Pate of New Orleans Habitat for Humanity.
