Gov. "Bobby" Jindal (all bizarre and superfluous quotation marks [though as a commenter rightly pointed out, Jindal's given first name is of course Piyush, but most of the rest do seem sort of strange to me] appear as they do on the Louisiana Secretary of State site's candidate inquiry page) was among the first qualifiers for seven statewide elected offices this morning. Today is the first of three qualifying days for the October 22 election, and as of this writing (a bit before 2 p.m.), the gubernatorial ballot looks just as exciting as it was predicted to be.
Expected Democratic distant-second Tara Hollis has not yet filed her qualifying papers. So thus far, Jindal's only official challengers are "Ron" Ceasar, who orchestrated a truly spectacular failure of a Jindal recall effort earlier this year, and William Robert "Bob" Lang Jr., who was just as successful in his 2010 bid for David Vitter's Senate seat (image taken from LA SOS):

End of day update (5:24 p.m.): Leonard Bollingham of Baton Rouge has also joined the race.
In other major statewide races, incumbent "Tom" Schedler will face off against current State House Speaker "Jim" Tucker for Secretary of State. In the lieutenant governor's race, incumbent "Jay" Dardenne will be challenged by Plaquemines Parish President Billy (not in quotes) Nungesser.
So far, no one has filed papers to run against incumbents James D. "Buddy" Caldwell and John Neely Kennedy for state attorney general and treasurer, respectively.

Poor attempt at humor or are you seriously that ignorant regarding nicknames?
Well, I can certainly see why they're there around a nickname like "Buddy," but not as much for, say, "Bobby" or especially "Tom," especially when not preceded by Robert or Thomas on the web site. So I guess I claim serious ignorance.
Which, again, I claim serious ignorance based on being brand new to the state. Though I'm sure I've heard Jindal referred to by his given first name and probably more than once in national news, it obviously hasn't been enough to really register. That correction has been made and noted in the blog entry.
Political commentary on Jindal's name but none on the inability of the moribund Democrat Party of Louisiana to even put up a candidate for governor! That is "bizarre".
I wouldn't call it either "political" or "commentary" in regard to Jindal's name so much as non-political commentary in re the SOS web site's use of punctuation and presentation of names.
