Vitter to host Saints party rather than attend Obama jobs speech

Posted by Kevin Allman on Wed, Sep 7, 2011 at 3:32 PM

Sen. David Vitter is a New Orleans Saints fan — and his fandom reached its apotheosis in this completely spontaneous image from the Vitter family's 2009 Christmas card, which was good enough to squirrel away for safekeeping:

This is not Photoshopped.
  • This is not Photoshopped.

(Did the Vitters ever upgrade from that 20-inch portable TV? Turn over the stacks of cups? Apologize to the mortified-looking girls in the back for making them do this?)

Anyway, Vitter is such a Black and Gold supporter that he sent out an email this morning to announce he would be skipping President Barack Obama's jobs speech in favor of watching the Saints-Packers season opener tomorrow night at his house in Metairie:

Some of my left-wing critics call me a fanatic. Well, they're certainly right that I'm a fan. And I set my priorities that way. I sent out the following comment on social media today:

"Will listen to President's speech carefully . . . from my priority area for job creation, Who Dat nation. Family and friends coming over for big game. On to recovery—and super bowl!"

See you at the Super Bowl, Mr. President!

David

Of course, a lot of folks will be skipping out on Obama's speech — but most of 'em don't send out email blasts to draw attention to the fact. Nor do they appear on Fox News to announce their game day party plans:

Think Progress cast doubt on the rationale:

The Saints open the National Football League season at 8:30 p.m. Thursday night. Obama’s speech is at 7 p.m., presumably leaving Vitter enough time to attend the speech and get to his office, a sports bar, or anywhere else with a TV without missing any of the game.

See you at the Super Bowl, Sen. Vitter!

I hear his frustration especially with regard to the Obama administration's policies as they impact drilling in the Gulf. However, I'll be listening the the presidents speech and hope our nations legislators will be doing the same. It is notable that the approval rating for the president is in the low 30's while the approval rating for congress is in the mid teens. GOOOOOO SAINTS !!!!!!

Here in Wisconsin, we will watch the president's speech AND the game. Your senator is setting a poor example for his kids and the state. I hope you call him on his poor choice. GO, PACK, GO

Woodson, I get your point about setting an example but David Vitter has made so many poor choices (do we need to revisit the call girls and diapers?) that this one pales in comparison.

He's just pandering to a certain demographic of Louisianians-- knowing there are plenty yahoos who'll say, hay-ull he's my kind of good ol boy, he ain't even going to listen to the Prezdint when there's a Saints game on and bygawd I'm votin for him next time!

Those of us who care what's happening in the world beyond Louisiana, we'll be listening or watching the President speak even though we don't necessarily agree with what has happened (or more importantly, what hasn't happened) during his term.

Why don't we just have the Democrats & the Republicans play their own football game after the President speaks (& the Saints win)...... we could name it after Congress & call it the "CON-BOWL", after all, that's what they're all doing...."CONNING THE AMERICAN PUBLIC!"

P.S. WHO DAT..... (can we still say that legally?)

Vitty taking off early for some naughty-naughty action before kickoff time. Which Wendy gets the nod? Only Vitty and the Mossad know for sure!

Vitter is a disrespectful, disgruntled ole soul. He doesnt even respect his wife, family or himself, so it's it's no surprise that he would try to disrespect the president.
