The much anticipated Missoni for Target line debuted today (New York Magazine has a slideshow of the full line), and its popularity broke the Internet. Online shoppers hoping to purchase items from the storied Italian fashion house's capsule collection — which includes everything from a floral romper to a colorful, chevron-print bicycle — were sadly turned down by this stuffed dog, who appears to be hard at work fixing the website.
Local stores are already selling out of the line. The operator at the Metairie location says all is left is a "couple of pieces of clothes and some socks," the Harvey store is "sold out mostly" but "expecting stuff within the week" and, perhaps most dire, the Kenner operator reports customers are "scavenging through the returns." Woof, indeed.
1. That loud chevron print brandishing nearly all the items is going to be everywhere, girl. You and everyone else are going to get sick of it by the time December rolls around.
2. Although the Missoni name is attached to these items, remember that they still come from Target, which means they are still the same cheaply made clothing items.
3. Did you know Target CEO Gregg Steinhafel once donated to the Michele Bachmann campaign?
4. You can use the money you'd be spending on the cheap Missoni stuff to save up for the real thing! (Haha, yeah, GOOD LUCK WITH THAT.)
Also, based on what I've seen with past designer's capsule collections for Target, people tend to buy everything up in the first week, realize they were only buying this ugly sweater vest because of the name brand, and then return it all to Target — and by that point it might even be on sale. These things also tend to turn up on eBay. So stop worrying about this, and stop trying to access the Target website so I can take a crack at ordering that wonderful bike.
