Thursday night, Saints Vice President of Communications Greg Bensel confirmed the banner, saying the team has been pitching the naming-rights idea to several different companies.Bensel said they have been placing different brands on banners and then taking pictures of them to show potential companies what the ‘Dome would look like with their logo on it.
OK, but ... Mercedes-Benz? Has anyone given Ronnie Lamarque rights of first refusal? He could project his commercials on the side of the Dome during game days.
What about Chip Forstall (at least he'd probably put on some good concerts, and that bald head would make a nice visual pun with the shape of the Dome)?
Or ... Da Rocky & Carlo's Superdome ("Ladies Welcome")?
Twitter was immediately abuzz with ideas, with people using the hashtag #SuperdomeNamingRights.
Who do you think should get the naming rights to the Superdome?

This is a tacky idea. I get a ton of ads rammed down my throat everyday--I don't want to associate the Dome with some crass consumer product.
As an ex-expatriate in Cleveland who watched "the Jake" (Jacob's Field) go down in flames to Progressive a few years ago, I still take pride in the fact that we have, simply, Browns Stadium. Having spent more weekends than I can count at Tulane and Saints games in the Dome growing up, I can't imagine the Dome being anything but. I understand the need for the money though...as long as it's local. Abita Field. Tabasco Arena. Haydels Stadium. Hell, yes, I guess even Lamarque Field if it means keeping it out of national hands.
I don't know how I feel about losing the Louisiana Superdome to a consumer product. It just doesn't seem right. Maybe if they offered them a section name in the dome that would be better than McKenzie's Own Dome.
After thorough deliberation, 5 minutes, I veto the notion. I don't care who's name could be affixed to the dome, the residents of naturally n'awlins would always and forever call it The Dome!
I'm sure a brand like Mercedes Benz is thrilled to see their logo on a cheap plastic banner. Are you kidding me? Has this guy heard of PHOTOSHOP? You could actually make the logo look attractive for a potential sponsor. This is just a bad stunt to drum up interest, obviously.
As long as Superdome remains in the title, it shouldn't have the negative effect this plan has had in other areas. Candlestick Park has gone through so many name changes. 3Com Park, Monster Park... not so iconic.
I think 26 of the 32 teams have a sponsored stadium. Does Benson need the money, or just want the money?
How about Rosenberg's stadium? They could put the 'special man' out front, and have him say: "Let her have it" all day long!!!
Seems better for the local economy to get out of state money to invest in the operations costs of the Superdome than to use local money. To not get money for naming rights is absurd. The Dome and the Saints are a business, they prosper with greater income. Naming rights should have been sold decades ago.
