Coco Robicheaux, 1947-2011

Last night, Coco Robicheaux — mystic bluesman, artist and Frenchmen Street fixture — collapsed while at one of his favorite haunts, the Apple Barrel, and was taken by ambulance to Tulane Medical Center. Word flew on Twitter that Coco had died before the ambulance reached the hospital, but no one wanted to believe it; nevertheless, it was confirmed, and WWOZ-FM, as it does whenever a significant New Orleans musical figure dies, went all-Coco in memoriam.

Robicheaux was a familiar figure in the Faubourg Marigny (often wearing his signature purple suit) and a staple at local musical festivals. Here he is performing at Louisiana Music Factory during the 2008 Jazz Fest.
