Video: NOPD Chief Serpas stops by #OccupyNOLA

Posted By on Sun, Dec 4, 2011 at 9:48 AM

New Orleans Police Department Chief Ronal Serpas walked through the Occupy New Orleans encampment at Duncan Plaza last night, which, by the way, has been declared pretty much over by the daily newspaper. (I was there until about 4 a.m., and the park still looked quite full of tents to me. But I'm not the paper of record.)

Serpas spoke to protesters, echoing Mayor Mitch Landrieu's announcement Friday that "now is the time to leave," but, like Landrieu, refusing to give a specific deadline for a police enforced eviction.

Here's a video of Serpas speaking to Occupy New Orleans camper Frazer O'Hara:

In other news, organizers at last night's general assembly voted to allow the legal team — which now includes civil rights attorney Bill Quigley — to seek a temporary restraining order on an eviction action. Quigley and the rest of the legal team will also be requesting a meeting with Landrieu to find out what, exactly, the city plans to do about the camp and, importantly, when it might happen, said legal observers Miles Swanson and Mark Gonzalez.
