19 comedy shows in 19 days preview theater opening

Posted by Alex Woodward on Wed, Jan 11, 2012 at 10:40 AM

The New Movement (TNM) comedy conservatory and improv school announced it would open a dedicated full-time comedy theater at 1919 Burgundy St., set to open March 1.

To preview the theater's arrival, TNM scheduled 19 shows, at 19 venues, in 19 days, starting last night at the Howlin' Wolf Den for the weekly Stupid Time Machine show with a TNM recital. It ends with a preview of the theater at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28.

It also produced a series of public service announcements, hosted and narrated by CJ Hunt, who rightfully makes you feel like a big dummy if you're "totally unaware" of weekly comedy events. Here's the latest PSA, also starring Michelle DeMattina and Grace Blakeman:

At 9 p.m. tonight, the "19 shows" continues with Stupid Time Machine at Cafe Istanbul (inside the New Orleans Healing Center). At 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, the All-Star Comedy Revue hits the House of Blues. And at 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, the ladies-only improv troupe Claws with Fangs (who killed at this year's inaugural Hell Yes Fest comedy festival) performs at the Shadowbox Theatre.
