We’re used to seeing food TV personality Andrew Zimmern on the Travel Channel, hosting his globetrotting “Bizarre Foods” show. Next week, though, you can see him at the Mid-City edition of the Crescent City Farmers Market cooking up nothing so bizarre as shrimp etouffee.

Zimmern is in town taping material for his MSN web series, “Appetite for Life with Andrew Zimmern,” and for this farmers market cooking spot he’ll team up with Poppy Tooker, the New Orleans food advocate and host of the “Louisiana Eats” program on local NPR affiliate WWNO 89.9 FM.

With cameras in tow, Zimmern and Tooker will shop for ingredients from vendors at the Thursday afternoon market, prepare a festival-sized serving and then offer samples to market shoppers in exchange for a contribution, in any amount. Proceeds will help fund Crescent City Farmers Market community programming.

The cooking and sampling are scheduled for 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 26. The Thursday farmers market will be open for business as usual throughout, and continuing to 7 p.m.
