Seems like a good fit of store and spokesperson — Ellen's light and funny, she has a very popular talk show that probably matches Penney's demographic, she's raised millions and millions for charity (especially New Orleans recovery) and continues to raise more, she's ... uh-oh.

JC Penney Offends Traditional Families Again

Recently JC Penney announced that comedian Ellen Degeneres will be the company's new spokesperson. Funny that JC Penney thinks hiring an open homosexual spokesperson will help their business when most of their customers are traditional families. More sales will be lost than gained unless they replace their spokesperson quickly. Unless JC Penney decides to be neutral in the culture war then their brand transformation will be unsuccessful.

Their marketing strategy is to help families shop and receive a good value for their money. Degeneres is not a true representation of the type of families that shop at their store. The majority of JC Penney shoppers will be offended and choose to no longer shop there. The small percentage of customers they are attempting to satisfy will not offset their loss in sales.

It seems One Million Moms is obsessed with ending childhood hunger fighting breast cancer improving public schools GAY SEX they seem to see around every corner.

Among the many weird obsessions on their site is one regarding Sesame Street's Bert and Ernie, a petition demanding that "PBS should not even entertain the idea of a Gay Wedding on a Children's Show" (something that the Sesame Workshop says hasn't been entertained — I guess it's a contraceptive petition).

Interestingly, on the group's Facebook page, it seems that not all One Million Moms are up in arms over Ellen:

If I were at home during the day instead of working, I would watch Ellen's show. Being gay is only a part of who she is. Her comedy is not mean but it can still bring you to tears with laughter. She is generous with her blessings and is modest in her dress and behavior. She does not hide who she truly is. If these are traits to be judged poorly by, I am done. Being Christian means loving all people regardless of what we may perceive as "sin". Let he/she who is without sin cast the first stone. I can get behind campaigns to boycott promotion of sexism but I cannot support this call by OMM. Leaving your page.

I think that their intent in hiring is that she is a fun person! She was not hired because she is a fun gay person. As a Christian, I choose to look at the person without their sin. Who is without sin????? If I chose to not associate with anyone that sinned, I could not even associate with myself! OMM needs to relax a little. Work on doing good like sending the group to Africa, not dictating who we should or should not buy from. I am sure that you can find fault with EVERY retailer out there. I am sure that all have at least one gay person working for them! RELAX!

Anyway, while One Million 999,997 Moms fuss about this, DeGeneres is set to raise millions of dollars in one night to help New Orleans' ongoing recovery:

On March 10th, “A Night to Make It Right,” one of the largest-scale fundraising events in New Orleans’ history, will be hosted by Brad Pitt and Ellen DeGeneres.

“I’m so happy I can be a part of this incredible foundation…Brad Pitt is amazing — not only for what he started, but also because, who else can make a hard hat look like a jaunty fall fashion accessory?” DeGeneres told Look to the Stars. DeGeneres and her fans have raised more than $1.6 for the foundation. ...

Being hosted at the newly redesigned Hyatt Regency New Orleans, the hotel kicked off the fundraising efforts with a $300,000 donation.

Wonder if "One Million Moms" has raised anything but their own blood pressure?
