Original dirty rapper Blowfly film and show this week

Clarence "Blowfly" Reid isn't the biggest name in soul or funk, but he was a force in Miami's music scene in the 1960s and ’70s. To many, he is better known simply as Blowfly, a master of filthy lyrics and progenitor of his own gonzo brand of porno freak funk. Some say his early racy rhymes make him the original dirty rapper.

Blowfly is in New Orleans this week. He will attend a screening of the documentary The Weird World of Blowfly at Zeitgeist Thursday, and there will be a Q&A with him afterward. He performs Friday at Siberia, and his band will include Bill Davis of Dash Rip Rock and Pete Gordon, a longtime member of Mojo Nixon's backing band The Toadliquors. The bill also includes a DJ set by Soul Sister and the Super Nice Bros.

On a sad note, the Los Angeles Times reports that Soul Train creator Don Cornelius was found dead at his home this morning.
