Mayor Mitch Landrieu, City Council President Jackie Clarkson and New Orleans Police Department 8th District Commander Jeffrey Walls were among those gathered at St. Louis to pay their respects to Ainsworth, a beloved volunteer for COPS 8, a support organization for the 8th District.

Former 8th District Commander Ed Hosli, who spoke at the service, remembered Ainsworth as someone who was always eager to help with maintenance around the station.

"Harry is always — he thought about others first," in particular, his two sons, Hosli said. "He always talked about them boys, them two boys. He gave those boys attention that many of us never received as kids."

Yvonne Ainsworth, Mike's mother, said she prays that police are able to find her son's killer, though, she added, she wishes him no ill will. Ainsworth's mother finished her eulogy by reaching out to the victim of the carjacking.
"There's a lady in here who was also a victim. She feels like it's her fault," Yvonne Ainsworth said. "I want her to know that no one in this family blames her for this."
