The Jesus and Mary Chain announces reunion concert in New Orleans

Scottish shoegaze forefathers The Jesus and Mary Chain, absent since 1999 except for a handful of reunion dates, announced a three-date "tour" before the band's appearance at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas. On Tuesday, March 13, the band will headline the House of Blues.

The band's landmark 1985 debut album Psychocandy featured the group's signature, "Just Like Honey," and following albums secured the band's enduring influence among psychedelic and alternative contemporaries, particularly in the U.K.'s surge of shoegaze groups, Brit pop and the Sub Pop sect — and the current frenzied revival of all of those things.

Tension between band founders and brothers Jim and William Reid, and lagging mid-'90s output, brought the band to an official end by 1999, though it was clear things were over sooner (or even sooner: see "The Living End," track 2, side 1 of the band's debut). The band also is set to release reissues of its discography, with double LPs and DVDs.

The band begins its string of performance dates on March 11 at Denton, Texas' 35 Denton Festival, followed by the New Orleans stop and another Texas gig before the SXSW appearance. Stay tuned for ticket information.
