Universal has just issued an open casting call for extras to appear in an untitled science fiction movie starring Tom Cruise. Male and female adults age 18 to 60 are needed for the film, which will be shot in New Orleans and Baton Rouge from March to May of this year. Aspiring thespians can appear in person at the Pontchartrain Center, 4545 Williams Blvd. in Kenner, on Wednesday, February 15, anytime between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m. "The casting process will only take a few minutes. We'll have you complete an application and take your picture," says the official release. Those who can't make the casting call can email a current photo and contact info to utcpcasting@gmail.com.

Little is known about the project, which will be directed by Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy). But we found the following plot synopsis at the Internet Movie Database:

"A court martial sends a veteran soldier to a distant planet, where he is to destroy the remains of an alien race. The arrival of an unexpected traveler causes him to question what he knows about the planet, his mission, and himself." We can hardly wait (insert Tom Cruise joke here).
