Tonight, bayou metal warrior-priests Thou perform at 3 Ring Circus' The Big Top Gallery at 8 p.m. (after the Krewe of Oshun parade). It'll be the band's last performance until at least fall 2012 if not later. The band hasn't slacked from constant (international) touring, endless releases and the weight of its dense, fog-thick sound, equal parts Baton Rouge sludge and New Orleans doom, Black Sabbath and black metal, with a glimpse of the beyond.
If you've yet to see the band NPR, Pitchfork and dozens other metal mags and music pubs have claimed one of the best, this would be a good time. You can download the band's latest EPs — 2011's Archer & the Owle and To the Chaos Wizard Youth — on its website, where you also can download its entire discography at no charge.
Also performing is Yob, a legendary Oregon doom metal trio giving New Orleans an art venue gig while on break from the band's current tour with TOOL. Stream the track "Prepare the Ground" from its 2011 album Atma, the band's sixth.
More jams after the jump.
Kourtney Heart released her latest single "Call It Quits" from her upcoming "mixtape" A Gemini's Diary. Grab it here.
When Yob and Thou wrap up, local metal institution Eyehategod performs at Siberia. The band, one of the flag- or pallbearers of Southern metal, could perhaps release Whiskey Drink, its first full-length album in more than a decade, according to anxious metal bloggers. Hear a new track, live, here.
9 p.m. Saturday at One Eyed Jacks, Kermit Ruffins and the Hot 8 Brass Band are joined by Partners-N-Crime backed by the Big Easy Bounce Band, which recreates bounce music with live instrumentation. Here's PNC's Mr. Meana with "My City" from the upcoming Who Say I Can't Rap.
Here's The Boss' video for his latest single "We Take Care of Our Own":
