Yesterday we began documenting the state of the Orleans Avenue neutral ground in the days leading up to the Krewe of Endymion parade. What's changed in the last 24 hours? No ladders or furniture yet, but lots more spray paint than there was yesterday, and even some gardening stakes and string. Let's take a look.
Hard to tell what's going on here, but it looks like three different groups have split up this corner in a way I haven't seen since 10th-grade geometry ... if line segment A is twice as long as chord B ...
Using string and gardening stakes, some enterprising person has marked off a neutral-ground space as large as a studio apartment.
More under the cut.
Hi, CHAD.
This is hard to read, but it says "LSUSD." A quick Google search reveals that it could stand for the LSU School of Dentistry or the school district in Lakeside, Calif.. Or maybe it's something else. It's certainly big enough to fit an entire School of Dentistry.
Check back tomorrow on Endymion's Progress ...

I want to spread gasoline on any roped off space on neutral grounds that I pay my taxes to have maintained and open to the any public and LIGHT A MATCH. LOOK OUT!
It's really great that people think they can turn public property into private property.
Can I have ROOMS TO GO make a delivery to the corner of Canal & Bienville?
Actually, no, it's not fun. Bringing folks from out of town to Endymion a few years ago was an exercise in frustration. We couldn't believe that we weren't "allowed" to cross from the street to behind the encampments that blocked all egress. It was ugly, rude and not very welcoming to my friends. We learned our lesson, I guess. Endymion belongs to those folks who "own" the street. Not to the rest of us.
I almost got into a fight with some asshat who did this last year. There's no lack of police assigned to stand around on parade routes. They should go around plucking those sticks from the ground emphasizing the fact that its not safe nor wise to cordon off plots of land on the NEUTRAL grounds.
The people that need to grow up are the people who think they have the right to take up public space on the parade route. If you and your family/friends get out there early the day of the parade and get a spot and are in it most of the day, then good for you and I don't have an issue with it. But to physically rope off large areas several days before the actual parade is pretty pathetic. I feel the same way about the folks who do similar (with ladders) on St. Charles Ave. I'll join Beto in saying I wish the City would actually do something about it.
