Eddie Vedder cancels Jazz Fest gig, postpones tour

Pearl Jam's 2010 performance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival was a highlight of the two-week stretch. Singer Eddie Vedder, on the heels of last year's solo ukulele album Ukulele Songs, was invited to perform at this year's fest. Today, however, Vedder announced he's backing out his entire spring 2012 tour and rescheduling those dates to the fall.

Vedder has temporary nerve damage in his right arm, the result of a back injury from earlier this year.

In a statement, Pearl Jam manager Kelly Curtis said, "After having worked aggressively with doctors and physical therapists for the last eight weeks to repair the damage, the intensity of the injury and time needed to heal has made it impossible to play the shows as scheduled. There was hope up until the last minute that the treatments would be successful. Sincerest apologies go out to those who have made plans and bought tickets. Eddie is frustrated beyond measure, but remains positive that come this summer all will be back in good form."

Unfortunately, the Jazz Fest date — he was set to appear Thursday, May 3 on the Acura Stage — was not rescheduled.
