The New Orleans Film Society has announced the lineup for this year's FilmOrama, the annual festival of independent film that will take place at the Prytania Theatre April 20 to 26. One festival highlight is the much-anticipated new film by hard-boiled indie kingpin Abel Ferrara (Bad Lieutenant, King of New York). Ferrara's 4:44 Last Day on Earth is timed nicely to the upcoming apocalypse suggested by the Mayan calendar. Also on the schedule are documentaries celebrating the lives of Bob Marley, Carol Channing, and Charlotte Rampling, three names that had never appeared together in a sentence until the the New Orleans Film Society got involved. We're also looking forward to a theatrical screening of Battle Royale, the 2000 Japanese film that many point to when refusing to see The Hunger Games, on principle.
