DISCLAIMER: In no way are we trying to invade anyone’s privacy, but it’s fun to hear about the great places celebrities are visiting while they’re hanging out in New Orleans. We’re appreciative of the people who are way more famous than we’ll ever be for visiting our city and state, spending their money, and sometimes even contributing to our rebuilding and recovery efforts.
Russell Brand enjoyed dinner at the hot new restaurant Root on Julia Street. When not getting in trouble with the NOPD, Brand is in town filming an untitled project from writer and first-time director Diablo Cody (Juno). The movie co-stars Octavia Spencer, Holly Hunter and Julianne Hough, and is about a religious woman who loses her faith after a plane crash. The movie also stars Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation), who was just recently in New Orleans filming 21 Jump Street.
Katie Holmes and daughter Suri were seen shopping in Canal Place. The two are in town with husband Tom Cruise as he films the movie Oblivion, a sci-fi flick about a war veteran set out to destroy an alien race. The movie co-stars Morgan Freeman and Treme’s Melissa Leo.
While in town filming Django Unchained, Leonardo DiCaprio is eating his way across New Orleans, as any visitor should, having dinner at both Lilette on Magazine and Herbsaint on St. Charles in the CBD. He also sat courtside at the Hornets game Wednesday night. Meanwhile, his co-star Jamie Foxx joined in on a PlayNOLA kickball night Uptown and took pictures with the players.
Some other celebs spotted this week: Rod Stewart was spinning around at the Hotel Monteleone’s Carousel Bar, and Gael Garcia Bernal, who filmed A Little Bit of Heaven with Kate Hudson last year, was walking around Royal Street yesterday morning.
Last but certainly not least, Rachel Bolan, lead singer of Skid Row, was eating at Mandina’s on Canal Street last weekend. It had to be mentioned.
More fun next week!
