The week-long smorgasbord of independent and foreign film that is New Orleans' own FilmOrama is not to be missed by anyone interested in the current state of cinema. But this weekend, on both Saturday and Sunday (and again on Wednesday), the festivities begin at noon with a rare chance to see Alfred Hitchcock's 1938 classic The Lady Vanishes on the big screen. Not as dark as the Hitchcock satires that would soon follow, The Lady Vanishes is pure comic suspense, a lightweight entertainment remarkably free of the director's trademark moral ambiguity. Consider it a palette-cleanser for the many treats to come courtesy of the New Orleans Film Society and the Prytania Theatre. And keep an eye out for the legendary nun-with-high-heels.
