Survey two levees that breached in 2005 and the neighborhoods in between during a bike tour Sunday, May 6. See the improvements made during the past six years, learn some history, get some fresh air and exercise — all before the gates open on the final day of Jazz Fest 2012.
Levees.org is leading an inaugural 12-mile Levee Disaster Bike Tour Sunday, May 6, that includes stops at the 17th Street Canal breach (6932 Bellaire Drive) and the London Avenue Canal breach (5300 Warrington Drive) and rides through Lakeview, City Park and the Filmore Gardens neighborhood of Gentilly. Sandy Rosenthal, founder of Levees.org will give short talks at the stops.
The tour is free and open to the public; RSVP to Rosenthal at sandy@levees.org. The 12-mile ride starts at 9 a.m. at the City Park boat and bike rental on Big Lake Trail and will end at the same place at 10:30 a.m.

The Levee Disaster Bike Tour is organized through Jane Jacobs Walk, an organization dedicated to making neighborhoods bike-friendly and safe places to walk.
