Louisville, Ky. festival favorite My Morning Jacket closes out the Gentilly Stage at 5:25 p.m. Read my interview with keyboardist Bo Koster in Gambit. There's likely to be some Pres Hall collaboration, as that band wraps its Economy Hall set as MMJ takes the stage. The two bands have been kindred spirits over the last couple years, as MMJ and its leader, singer Jim James, have fallen head over heels with New Orleans and have taken Pres Hall on tour. The band performed inside the sacred grounds jazz hall in 2010, which you can see on YouTube, in parts, and in Danny Clinch's film Louisiana Fairytale — watch a trailer below:
Download MMJ's "Wonderful (The Way I Feel)," featuring Band of Horses' Ben Bridwill, here.
... and after the Fest:
Filter Magazine and Fender are hosting a "free" show with Roky Erickson and Thurston Moore, with Morning 40 Federation and other guests at One Eyed Jacks. RSVP here. My advice: Get there early. Here's Roky's "Goodbye Sweet Dreams" from his comeback album with Okkervil River, True Love Cast Out All Evil.
