My Morning Jacket

For more music from some of the artists from this week's New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival lineup, click here. For the rest of the weekend, scroll down. Head to Gambit for complete Fest listings.

Saturday, May 5:

MyNameIsJohnMichael (12:40 p.m., Gentilly Stage) offers two free downloads from his upcoming album Picture Perfect Past here.

Sam Doores & the Tumbleweeds (12:35 p.m., Lagniappe Stage) release their debut LP tomorrow night at AllWays Lounge — stream tracks from the rough-edged, Southern soul-inspired country outfit here.

Listen to Niger's Tuareg star Bombino's (2:40 p.m., Blues Tent) album Agadez here.

Preservation Hall Jazz Band (4:25 p.m., Economy Hall Tent) celebrates its 50th anniversary at the fairgrounds. Download the band's "One More Time Fore I Die," a collaboration with bluegrass musician Del McCoury here. The band also celebrates with an anniversary blowout at The Joy Theater on Saturday, featuring an all-star New Orleans lineup including Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Walter "Wolfman" Washington and a dozen others.

Much more after the jump.

Louisville, Ky. festival favorite My Morning Jacket closes out the Gentilly Stage at 5:25 p.m. Read my interview with keyboardist Bo Koster in Gambit. There's likely to be some Pres Hall collaboration, as that band wraps its Economy Hall set as MMJ takes the stage. The two bands have been kindred spirits over the last couple years, as MMJ and its leader, singer Jim James, have fallen head over heels with New Orleans and have taken Pres Hall on tour. The band performed inside the sacred grounds jazz hall in 2010, which you can see on YouTube, in parts, and in Danny Clinch's film Louisiana Fairytale — watch a trailer below:

Download MMJ's "Wonderful (The Way I Feel)," featuring Band of Horses' Ben Bridwill, here.

... and after the Fest:

Filter Magazine and Fender are hosting a "free" show with Roky Erickson and Thurston Moore, with Morning 40 Federation and other guests at One Eyed Jacks. RSVP here. My advice: Get there early. Here's Roky's "Goodbye Sweet Dreams" from his comeback album with Okkervil River, True Love Cast Out All Evil.

Legendary Portland-Memphis hardcore outfit Tragedy, former His Hero Is Gone, headlines with Louisiana's doom bringing Thou at Siberia at 10 p.m. Pretty much everything Thou has released is available for free download here.

At Tipitina's French Quarter, Theresa Andersson performs with Brass-A-Holics at 10 p.m. Corey Henry of Rebirth Brass Band and Corey Glover of Living Colour perform with Galactic at an already sold-out show at Tip's Uptown. Stream some Brass-A-Holics tracks here.

Power-pop godfather Nick Lowe is at House of Blues at 9 p.m. Watch the Marc Maron- and Tim Heidecker-starring video for "Sensitive Man" from Lowe's The Old Magic:

Sunday, May 6:

Rotary Downs

Stream tracks from Pavement-esque indie rockers Rotary Downs (11:10 a.m., Acura Stage), who open the big stage.

Download Lafayette blues folk singer-songwriter Brother Dege's (11:20 a.m., Blues Tent) "Wehyah" from his 2012 LP How to Kill A Horse, a swampy, apocalyptic experiment with backwards slide guitars and far-out rural blues.

Baton Rouge's Red Stick Ramblers (12:35 p.m. Fais Do Do Stage) mix Cajun folk, country and Western swing. Watch "Made in the Shade" below:

Download "Do It Again" from Gambit cover boys and Grammy-winning brass legends Rebirth Brass Band (3:45 p.m., Congo Square Stage) from the Grammy-winning album Rebirth of New Orleans.

Explosive soul outfit Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings close out the Blues Tent at 5:30 p.m. Get a free download of "I Learned the Hard Way" via Daptone Records here, from the 2010 album of the same name.

... and until the gates reopen in 2013:

Heat Dust, Mopsik and The Last Beginning are at The Big Top for the weekly Punk Rock Takeover showcase at 2 p.m. Download Heat Dust's garage-y, fuzz-filled self-titled EP here.
