Oklahoma psych-pop legends The Flaming Lips will attempt the Guinness World Record title for the most shows played in 24 hours across a southeastern tour beginning in Memphis and ending in New Orleans. Jay-Z currently holds the record.

On June 27, the band performs at Handy Park at 4 p.m. and then hits the road to stop at seven more gigs (five in Mississippi alone, including one at 5:30 a.m.) before wrapping at the Varsity in Baton Rouge at 2:45 p.m. June 28, then immediately hitting the House of Blues in New Orleans at 4:45 p.m. Can it be done?

The band's whirlwind mini-tour and concerts will be streamed live as part of the O Music Awards, and a big ol' mess of corporate sponsors (the Viacom Music Group, Starbucks, Honda, Capital One) have signed on the journey. Tickets on sale here.

Lafayette's GIVERS joins the Baton Rouge gig, and electronic pop songstress Grimes takes the House of Blues stage. Fun note: when last in town, Grimes, aka Claire Boucher, partied in a cemetery and delivered these series of tweets:
