The Lens: Sheriff's Office takes blame for late criminal justice audit

Posted By on Wed, Jun 20, 2012 at 2:45 PM

In April, we reported that financial advisory firm PFM had begun an audit of the city's criminal justice system, including the police department, courts and the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office. That report was supposed to be ready in "late May or early June." That soft deadline has obviously passed.

Today, the Lens reports that Sheriff Marlin Gusman has taken some responsibility for the late report:

Gusman took ownership for the delay during a news conference Wednesday afternoon about hurricane preparedness.

“The PFM Group met with us four to six weeks ago,” he said. “We owe them information.”

Gusman indicated that a recent loss of personnel contributed to the delay. “We’ve been going through a lot of changes around here,” he said.
