How not to pick NFL games: A guide

We're heading into week three of the NFL season and once again, I've brought shame to sportswriters and football fans everywhere. Of the 13 games played last week, I correctly picked the winners in just six games. Meanwhile, Gambit CEO and closet NFL-guro Margo Dubos leads all VIPs in Gambit's Gridiron Game with 21 correct picks.

Seeing as how it's obvious that I don't know how to pick games, I figured that anyone who may still want to join the Gambit Gridiron Game or participate in some other pick 'em game would be interested in hearing some advice on how NOT to pick games. Because, clearly, I know how to do that better than anything else. So without further ado:

- Make sure to pick as many upsets as possible. For every Seahawks over Cowboys (correct pick!) there's a Chiefs over Bills, Bears over Packers or Jets over Steelers (all incorrect picks!) ready to derail your whole operation.

- Pick away teams as often as possible and, like me, you'll get to relish in seeing all but one of them lose.

- Homerism goes a long way. Since I was raised outside D.C., I have an innate belief that the Redskins will win every game. Since I've lived in New Orleans since 2007, I have that same innate belief about the Saints.

- Over-think every pick you make. Analyze match-ups, teams, past performance, injury reports, talking head chatter, message boards and anything else that may be written about the teams you're picking online. Take this as seriously as you can and spend up to the last possible minute debating and tweaking your picks.

Take it from me, folks, follow these four easy guidelines and, rest assured, your picks will be as horrendous as mine.

Or you could be like our Week 2 National Winner Fuelaw and Week 2 Local Winner Wwhickman and just pick games correctly. Either way. Hit the jump to check out my picks for this week (one correct so far!).
