The New Orleans Afrikan Film and Arts Festival opens tonight with the film Maestra at Cafe Istanbul. Saturday features The Interrupters, a film about an effort to stop the circle of violence in communities in Chicago. A screening of the film was supposed to happen in New Orleans last spring but was cancelled. There's a feature on the movie here. It screens at Cafe Istanbul Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Other Saturday films in the festival include Fernando Meirelles' City of God (2003) at 7 p.m. and Habanastation at 1 p.m.
Visit the festival's website for more details.
