Back up plan: Next time the Secretary of State's website is down

Posted by on Tue, Nov 6, 2012 at 12:46 PM

The Louisiana Secretary of State's (SOS) Voter Portal was overloaded and temporarily went down earlier today, the Times-Picayune reports. It's fine now, but should that happen again, there are other ways to find your polling place and precinct number.

Google, for one, has a polling place search. Of course it uses information from the SOS website and does not tell you your precinct number.

SOS also has a toll-free number for voting information: 800-883-2805.

Or, if you live in Orleans Parish, you can go to the City Council website District Maps page, where you can find your precinct number. But since that website is down a lot too, you can just download your district map here:

City Council District A: NOCCDistrictA-1.pdf

City Council District B: NOCCDistrictB-2.pdf

City Council District C: NOCCDistrictC-2.pdf

City Council District D: NOCCDistrictD-3.pdf

City Council District E: NOCCDistrictE.pdf

Once you have your precinct number, find it on this list of Orleans Parish polling places from the Louisiana State Legislature: PollingPlaces.pdf
