Cochon in Lafayette to close

Posted By on Fri, Jan 25, 2013 at 11:30 AM

Cochon will likely be a hard reservation to score next week as the Super Bowl crowds roll into town. Donald Link’s upscale Cajun restaurant has been widely acclaimed and always seems to be packed when big events come to New Orleans.

It’s been a different story at Cochon’s offshoot restaurant in Lafayette however. The Independent Weekly reported this morning that the year-old Cochon in Lafayette will be closing.

“Selling upscale Cajun to Cajuns? It was a gamble that did just not pay off for the Lake Charles native,” was how the Independent’s Leslie Turk summed up the news.

A spokeswoman for Link Restaurant Group confirmed the Lafayette restaurant would close and issued a statement explaining that the company “was re-focusing its development efforts in the New Orleans market.”

Link has a new restaurant in the works at the corner of Magazine and Julia streets in the Warehouse District. This yet-to-be-named restaurant will feature seafood and wood-fired ovens and is expected to open sometime this spring.

Meanwhile, Cochon’s Lafayette address will become a new restaurant operated by the owners of Ruffino’s, a popular Italian restaurant and steakhouse in Baton Rouge.
