To mark Father’s Day, and to raise funds for a new culinary library, the Link Restaurant Group and the Southern Food and Beverage Museum will host “Beasts and Books” on June 16 in Central City, near the museum’s future home. Described as a combination indoor picnic/culinary book fair, this first-time event will fill the Ashe Cultural Arts Center (1712 O.C. Haley Blvd.) with food booths from local restaurants and bins of new and used culinary books for sale from a wide range of local stores and organizations.
Chef Donald Link’s restaurants Cochon, Herbsaint and his new Pêche Seafood Grill will all participate, along with an impressive line-up of other eateries including Boucherie, Café Reconcile, Cowbell, Parkway Bakery & Tavern, Pizza Delicious and local caterer Linda Green (a.k.a. “The Yakamein Lady”). The gypsy jazz band Zazou City and the parade dance groups the Muff-A-Lottas and the Camel Toe Lady Steppers will perform, and there will be a bake sale and children's activities.
The event is a fundraiser for the SoFAB Culinary Library, which the museum plans to open later this year at 1609 O.C. Haley Blvd. in partnership with the New Orleans Public Library.
“Beasts and Books” is scheduled from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. All-inclusive tickets cost $50 (or $10 for kids age 10 and under) and include a picnic lunch from Cochon, cocktails and samples of other food from the vendors. The general admission, pay-as-you-go ticket is $5. Get advance tickets online here or at the door on June 16.
