Auction to benefit artist George Dureau

New Orleans native and artist George Dureau is known for is photo portraits, paintings and also a New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival poster featuring Professor Longhair. (The portrait above is in an expo at Arthur Roger Gallery through Saturday. The show is reviewed in Gambit here.) The 82-year-old artist suffers from Alzheimer's disease and has moved into an assisted living facility. To pay for care, a benefit auction is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Crescent City Auction Gallery. Lots include art and artifacts collected by Dureau as well as tools from his studio and other items. Visit the Crescent City website for details.
