The New Orleans Film Society has announced the opening and closing selections for its 24th Annual New Orleans Film Festival. Director Steve McQueen's locally shot 12 Years a Slave will start things things off this year on Oct. 10. The film stars Michael Fassbender, Quvenzhané Wallis, and Dwight Henry. Closing out the Festival on Oct. 17 will be Bayou Maharajah: The Tragic Genius of James Booker, the long-awaited biopic of the New Orleans piano master directed by local filmmaker Lilly Keber. Both screenings will be held at the Civic Theatre. The Festival's full schedule will be announced soon.
