will be jumping into the New Orleans City Council race for the District D seat with an official announcement coming next week, according to a fundraising flyer making the rounds today.
Brossett intends to announce his candidacy Nov. 7 at an event at Dooky Chase on Orleans Avenue.
Brossett, a Democrat, has been serving in the Louisiana legislature since 2009 as the representative from District 97 (which largely covers the Gentilly neighborhood), and was the former chief of staff to Councilwoman Cynthia Hedge-Morrell. Hedge-Morrell, who now represents District D, will be term limited in the upcoming election and has already announced her intention to run for one of the council's two at-large seats.
A call to Brossett was not returned as of this afternoon.
The election will be held Feb. 1, 2014, with a possible runoff to be held March 15. The qualifying period for all candidates is Dec. 11-13.
