The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival announced a Feb. 6, 2014 concert at the Civic Theatre featuring drummer Jack DeJohnette, bassist Esperanza Spalding, saxophonist Joe Lovano and pianist Leo Genovese performing as The Spring Quartet.
DeJohnette is an influential jazz drummer who has performed with Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Freddie Hubbard, Keith Jarret and a host of others. Spalding is the first jazz artist to win a Best New Artist Grammy. She also won a Best Jazz Vocal Album for Radio Music Society. Argentinian pianist and composer Genovese frequently performs with Spalding.
New Orleans native and trumpeter Christian Scott and is sextet open. (Scott performs Sunday at Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro.)

The foundation also announced a concert in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. scheduled on Jan. 17, 2014 at Dillard University's Lawless Memorial Chapel. Grammy-winning saxophonist Kenny Garrett and his quintet and singer/guitarist Raul Midon perform. Admission is free.
