Last week, I looked at how much has happened in Louisiana’s craft beer scene in 2013. This week, we look ahead to 2014.
40 Arpent in Arabi is putting the finishing touches on its brewery conversion, which was delayed by the government shutdown of 2013. Courtyard Brewing has neighborhood support to open its nano brewery and tap room in the Lower Garden District.
Gnarly Barley in Hammond is planning to launch right after Mardi Gras, releasing its Catahoula Common, Radical Rye PA and Korova Milk Porter. Thibodaux’s Mudbug Brewery reports that after some permit delays, construction on its brewhouse has resumed and it hopes to open in the first half of 2014.
Cajun Fire’s Jon Renthrope says the New Orleans-based brewery in process has been working with the Idea Village IDEAxcelerator program and is close to locking down a location and beginning the process of becoming a fully licensed brewery.
Second Line Brewing is a new brewery on the horizon; New Orleans natives Karen and Mark Logan will be moving home in 2014 after three years in Anchorage, Alaska and hope to start production in January 2015. Rougarou Brewing is a potential brewery in New Orleans seeking a head brewer. La Brasserie is still in initial planning stages, but hopes to collaborate with Courtyard once it opens.
NOLA Brewing will be releasing a pale ale in the spring, and its New Belgium collaboration, Black Strap Chicory Stout, will be released in January. Bayou Teche is collaborating with two breweries overseas in 2014, La Bambelle in France and Brewery L’Echasse in Belgium.
Newly opened brewery Great Raft in Shreveport hopes to capitalize on the immediate success of their tap room opening by offering brewery tours in 2014. Great Raft also will begin canning their beer. Red River is continuing to expand their brewing capacity and number of accounts in Shreveport.
