The French Quarter Festival announced its 2014 lineup of performers this morning. As always, the roster for this year's fest — the 31st — is full of local favorites, with more than 1,400 musicians performing across stages large and small spread throughout the Vieux Carre.

Most notable: the return of Dr. John to French Quarter Fest for the first time since 1987. Since Dr. John won't be appearing at Jazz Fest this year, it's a coup of sorts for FQF. Dr. John and the Nite Trippers will perform on the riverfront Abita Stage Fri. April 11 at 4:30 p.m., followed by The Roots of Music and the Rebirth Brass Band.

Varion Laurent designed the poster for the 2014 festival, a colorful Dr. John crooning at his piano. More than 60 restaurants will set up shop and GE Capital, a new sponsor for what's frequently referred to as the largest free festival in the country, will set up a recruiting center this year on-site. "If you've got friends and family coming in for French Quarter Festival, tell them to bring their resumes," said the company's CIO Mike DeBoer.

Abita Brewing Company announced this morning that it would renew its sponsorship of French Quarter Festival for the next five years. The brewery's signature strawberry lager will be offered for the first time on draft at this year's festival.

The full schedule of times and stages will be released in March. Acts and days are below the jump.
