Lovers of the Upper Nine Doughnut Company won't have to anxiously wait to get their weekly fix any longer. The doughnut pop-up, which has been operating out of Tracey's on Magazine St. on Saturdays, will now be taking over the Sound Cafe in the Marigny on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays as well.

Alongside venues like District Doughnuts.Sliders.Brew, Manhattanjack, and the newly opened Blue Dot on Tchoupitoulas St., Upper Nine has been a well-known part of the Uptown craft doughnut movement since their debut in May, 2013. When they first began selling their glazed, frosted and filled pastries out of Tracey's, it wouldn't be uncommon to find a significant line forming down Magazine St. on Saturday Mornings.

Upper Nine is known for employing local and seasonal ingredients in their doughnuts (often from nearby dairies and farms), and for some flavor combinations that are both original and ambitious. Past flavors have included everything from a wickedly popular strawberry and Creole cream cheese mousse, to Turtle Pie, Malted Whopper, Maple Bacon, Fresh Fig with Goat Cheese Mousse, and even "Szechuan Lemon" and "Blackberry Jam with Thai Peanut Glaze."

According to Douglas Clasen, co-founder of Upper Nine, "We're really excited to be able to be in that beautiful space, and we've always wanted to be in that neighborhood. The way we've been doing things at Tracey's, we've been changing up the menu every single week, so this will give us an opportunity to keep some familiar favorites on the menu as well as coming up with new things each week."

Marigny residents and doughnut fiends alike can also look forward to the company's expansion into java territory. "Being at Sound Cafe is also giving us an opportunity to look into bringing in some great coffee and espresso products. We've been working with some talented, high-up people in the coffee world, and we're really starting to turn into coffee geeks as well as doughnut geeks. It's very exciting."

The pop-up will continue serving the Uptown community at Tracey's every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. New hours begin at Sound Cafe this Thursday (February 13th - just in time for an early Valentine's Day gift, if one is so inclined) and will continue through Saturday each week from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sound Café is located at 2700 Chartres Street in Faubourg Marigny at the corner of Chartres and Port, and can be reached at (504) 947-4477.

Tracey's is located at 2604 Magazine St. in the Irish Channel, and can be reached at (504) 897-5413.
