Hulk Hogan, years after retiring from the WWE, still is professional wrestling in a way no one else has been, before or since. Monday, February 24, he returns to the WWE on Monday Night RAW, and on April 6, here in New Orleans at the Superdome, Hogan will host Wrestlemania 30, the signature sports-entertainment gala event he headlined for eight of its first nine years.

One aspect of Wrestlemania much-discussed by fans and Superstars alike is the potential for a "Wrestlemania Moment." It's the kind of perfect occurence only possible in the surreal and overwhelming pressure-cooker Wrestlemania atmosphere, an event so momentous that no-one who witnesses it will ever forget it. Hulk Hogan's bodyslam of the 7'4" 520-pound Andre the Giant at Wrestlemania III remains the prototypical Wrestlemania Moment, just as Hulk Hogan, despite all the awesome wrestlers who've succeeded him through the years, remains in the minds of many the prototypical professional wrestler.

It had been rumored for weeks that Hogan would be involved in Wrestlemania 30 in some regard — for the big anniversaries, the WWE pulls out all the stops, to a degree exceeding even the usual Wrestlemania excess— but the world of professional wrestling is rife with rumor. That Hogan will host it is great news, because Hogan's greatest asset has always been his charisma. By contrast, if Hogan, who is 60 years old, was booked to compete in the ring at 'Mania, even many who admire him would wince at the prospect.

The WWE has so much awesome current talent who can put on mind-blowing matches, and they are who need and deserve the in-ring spotlight. At this point in his storied career, Hogan fits far better in the role of ambassador and elder statesman. He's perfect as the host of a high-profile event like Wrestlemania 30, adding his intangible and irreproducible It Factor to an already star-studded night.

...All of which said, anything can happen in the WWE. When Hollywood megastar The Rock hosted Wrestlemania 27, he ended up physically interfering in the main event, costing John Cena (the closest thing to Hogan since Hogan, as far as persona, stature & longevity) the WWE title. So we'll see just how Hogan's host duties play out.

It has been eight years since Hogan was involved in Wrestlemania, and he's someone who enjoys attention. No doubt he'll want to do everything he can to make his involvement in the event memorable.

This Monday night on the USA Network, 7pm Central, Hogan will return to WWE television, providing the first hints as to what we might expect.

All we know now is that this unmatched Hall-of-Fame megastar is riding with WWE once again, on the road to Wrestlemania in New Orleans.
