Merrill Garbus — the one-woman machine behind the band stylized as tUnE-yArDs — will perform in New Orleans on Saturday, May 31 at Republic.
Tune-Yards' latest release Nikki Nack (4AD Records), her third studio effort, was released May 6 and has gathered acclaim from NPR, Rolling Stone and Pitchfork, among others. The album blends Garbus' ecstatic joy with imaginative polyrhythms and catchy, arrhythmic chants, bass and synth pulses and beautiful pop messes. Garbus' last New Orleans appearance included an in-store appearance at a packed Domino Sound Record Shack, where she very nearly brought the house down. Tune-Yards' world tour stops at 9 p.m. Saturday, May 31 at Republic (828 S. Peters St.) with openers Sylvan Esso. Tickets are $17 in advance and $20 at the door.
