The New Orleans Saints drafted wide receiver Brandin Cooks (Oregon State) with their first round pick in the NFL Draft. To acquire Cooks, the Saints traded up (#27) with the Arizona Cardinals (#20) and surrendered their 3rd round pick (#91) in order to move up seven spots to take Cooks.

Cooks won the Biletnikoff Award as the nation's top college wide receiver in 2013, when he set Pac-12 single-season records with 128 catches and over 1,700 receiving yards, which led the FBS, in 13 starts at the flanker position; he also had 16 receiving touchdowns. Cooks also set an Oregon State record for career touchdown catches with (24).

Moving up 7 spots to get the best college wide receiver, due to winning the Biletnikoff Award, was a smart and very good move by General Manager Mickey Loomis and Head Coach Sean Payton. While I still feel that cornerback was a larger need for the team, especially now since Carolina and Tampa drafted wide receivers with their first round picks that are 6-4+, getting Cooks at 20 was great and a very good value at 20. Cooks can fill that "Darren Sproles role" that everyone talks about and addresses the need for the team to get a little younger on offense.

Here's what Coach Payton thinks of Mr. Cooks.

All in all, I give the Saints three Best of New Orleans logos out of four. They were aggressive and got a playmaker on offense that will help this season and future seasons.

Last, here's what Saints safety Kenny Vaccaro said of Brandin Cooks:
