There will be three different screenings of the Internet cat video compilation, which is a touring project of the Walker Art Center in Minnesota. All local screenings will be held in the theater at the New Orleans Museum of Art. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased here for shows beginning at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. The event raises money for Spaymart and Art for Cats' Sake, two local non-profits that aim to improve the lives of cats in town.
The entire festival will last from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and there will be a free kitty extravaganza in front of NOMA's Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden. Though cats are being celebrated at the event, they are not invited to attend it (and probably wouldn't want to anyway, if I know anything about cats).
There's a photo contest that's taking entries in a variety of categories, from "Most Unique Markings" to "Cats in Hats." At the festival, the "People dressed as cats" contest is divided into children and adults, and kids will be judged at 12:30 p.m., adults at 3 p.m.
Most exciting is that winners of these contests will take home not only a mini-trophy but also a Paw Nosh glass cat bowl, the creme de la creme in pet china/flatware. But no pressure. I'm sure your cat won't be that disappointed if you don't win it.
