Milkfish, New Orleans' lone Filipino restaurant, is in the final stages of liquor license approval and will begin serving cocktails in the very near future.
"We have all the pieces in place, just waiting for the final word," said owner Christina Quackenbush. "It's any day now, but probably today or tomorrow, and definitely by next week."
The cocktails will be heavily influenced by exotic fruits, including jackfruit and dragon fruit, and will pull from the restaurant's current menu of "mocktails." The menu will also feature a Filipino bloody Mary with a healthy dose of pickled vegetables; a white Bloody Mary; and a boozy concoction made with a traditional Filipino ginger tea called salabat. Several local beers and a wine list also will be available.
Quackenbush said the drink menu is a long time coming. "We want to feature drinks that have unusual ingredients people aren't used to seeing in New Orleans, so this is exciting for us."
Milkfish is located at 125 N. Carrollton Ave. and is open for lunch and dinner, Thursday-Tuesday.
