Music Vault on YouTube features a slew of New Orleans musicians

Posted By on Mon, Jul 14, 2014 at 4:29 PM

So this launched three months ago but it's worth noting that music fans the world over have a new way to waste hours of their time online thanks to theMusic Vault YouTube Channel. With over 145,000 videos of live performances from some of the most well-known musical acts in the world, this is the most comprehensive online archive of live music performances to date.

Locals should take note because among the thousands and thousands of videos are a good number of some of New Orleans' best musical acts and boy is it something. Like, did you know that Louis Armstrong and Mahalia Jackson once did a duet of "Just a Closer Walk With Thee"? They did, and you can watch it in the video above.

That's just one of several videos that also include the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, the Neville Brothers, Wynton Marsalis, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Dr. John, among others.

I've embedded a few videos after the jump but the channel is well worth checking out. After all, there are much worse ways to waste a Monday afternoon.

Dr John performs "Right Place, Wrong Time" at the Newport Jazz Festival in 2006.

The Dirty Dozen Brass Band plays "My Feet Can't Fail Me Now" at Golden Gate Park in 1991.

The Neville Brothers perform "Nevillism" at the Saegner Theater in 1979.

Wynton Marsalis performs "The New Orleans Function" at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1989.
