If you're looking for a new Uptown spot for kebabs and hummus, Mezze Mediterranean (4430 Magazine St.) might just fit the bill.
Tonight, the restaurant, which has been quietly open for a couple of weeks, hosts an official "soft opening" launch beginning at 7 p.m. Mezze will allow guests to sample some of its dishes, as well as signature cocktails from the cash-only bar.
Cocktails on the menu include The Sultan's Wrath, featuring black strap rum, jalapeno-infused simple syrup, lime juice and orange liqueur, as well as Lion's Milk, a nickname for the Turkish, anise-flavored liqueur raki. Buyer beware, though: the cocktail menu warns, "A raki-fueled night often ends with everyone dancing on tables and chairs."
Plates include Turkish staples such as the doner kebab (could it be the autumn of the kebab?) and Mediterranean spice-rubbed, roasted chicken.
